[NEWS] The Russian Orthodox Church said that they do not yet feel restrictions in their activities due to sanctions
The head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, said that the Russian Orthodox Church is not yet facing severe restrictions due to the imposed sanctions. He announced this on the air of the Russia-24 TV channel.
In his opinion, the Russian Orthodox Church may be included in the sanctions list of “what the “enlightened” democratic Western society is currently fighting against.”
Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree on personal sanctions against 10 representatives of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Russian Orthodox Church. The office of the President of Ukraine reported this.
The annex lists the persons against whom sanctions are imposed for five years. In particular, they imply the deprivation of state awards in Ukraine.
In December, the Chernivtsi Regional Council deputies appealed to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Verkhovna Rada, and the country’s government to ban the activities of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).
