The Councilor for Citizen Participation and Sports of the Huelva City HallMaría Teresa Flores, accompanied by Abraham Ceada, representing the Brotherhood of Supperdesignated by the Diocesan Chapter as responsible for organizing the calendar of events and preparations for the celebration of the Corpus Christicoinciding with the 75th anniversary of its foundation, have presented at a press conference the acts related to the religious holidayincluding the second edition of the Contest of altars and balconies.

The councilor has pointed out that “from the Huelva City Council we insist on this initiative aimed at promoting this religious festivity, but at the same time, improving the image and gaining a new tourist attraction for the city.”

As Flores explained, it is about “encouraging citizens to decorate the city, with altars and balconies that further embellish the traditional procession through the streets of the city, organizing a contest to reward the best.” In this sense, he has assured that “we are willing to promote this tradition, to further magnify a celebration that this year incorporates important changes, concentrating the route of the procession through the pedestrian Historic Center, having as its center the church of La Concepción, due to to the works in the surroundings of the cathedral of La Merced”.

The procession will therefore be held on Thursday, June 8 and “we want to encourage citizens, both individually and collectively, to set up altars and decorate balconies for another year to enhance this religious festivity.” Likewise, Flores has had an impact on “drawing attention and involving citizens in the celebration of this festivity, which, in addition to beautifying our streets, can make visiting Huelva even more attractive these days” calling for participation “for consolidate this initiative and demonstrate the creativity of the people of Huelva, getting involved with the city, its festivals and traditions”.

Abraham Ceada, for his part, thanked the City Council for its involvement, encouraging the people of Huelva to participate “in a year that will offer us new images, such as enjoying the procession through Plaza Niña, with a stop at the convent of the Sisters of the Cruz and that for our Brotherhood it becomes an event, for the opportunity to celebrate our sacramental character the year in which we celebrate our 75th anniversary”.

Following the bases available on the website of the Huelva City Council and on paper, in the Citizen Participation Area, and can be collected from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., all proposals must contain express liturgical references to the festivity, especially valuing artistic quality of ephemeral installations and the maintenance of traditional elements in the exterior of altars and balconies.

The term is now open and the form and documentation can be delivered by email: corpus@huelva.es or in person at Citizen Participation until June 6 at 2:00 p.m.

For the altars, a first prize of 1,000 euros and diploma and a second prize of 500 euros and diploma, while in the case of the Balkans, a first prize of 500 euros and diploma and a second prize of 300 euros and diploma will be awarded.

The altars that are submitted to the contest must be located in the streets of the official itinerary of the Corpus Christi procession. While the balconies will also be allowed in the surrounding streets. The streets of the Corpus Christi will be: Méndez Núñez, Concepción, Palacios, Architect Pérez Carasa, Vázquez López, Gran Vía, Santa Ángela de la Cruz, Garcí Fernández, Isabel La Católica, Esperanza Coronada, La Paz, Miguel Redondo.

The jury will be made up of Juan Bautista Quintero Cartes, Alonso Sánchez and Sonia Maraver. It will fail on the same day as Corpus Christi and will be communicated by phone once the procession is over.

Supper Brotherhood Side Acts

Within the framework of the celebrations of its 75th anniversary, the Dominica, Real, Illustrious, Fervorous and Primitive Sacramental Brotherhood and Brotherhood of Nazarenes of the Holy Supper, Holy Christ of Love, Holy Mary of the Rosary in her Sorrowful and Glorious Mysteries and Santo Domingo de Guzmán will carry out an extraordinary transfer of the Santísimo Cristo del Amor, in its processional passage, leaving on June 7, at 8:00 p.m., from the Church of the Sacred Heart to the Church of Hope.

On Thursday, the image of the Most Holy Christ of Love will preside over a monumental altar, located in the Plaza de la Constitución, in front of the Huelva City Hall, as the Corpus Christi procession passes; serving as the setting for the celebration of the act of imposition of the City Medal that will take place on Saturday, June 10 at 8:00 p.m., with the dinner holder leaving, one hour before, around 7:00 p.m., from the Church of Holy Mary of Hope.
