
The Organization of the XVI edition of the Bajo la Luna International Film Festival – Islantilla Cinefórum announced this Thursday the number of feature films and short films registered in its Official Competition Sectionand that this year has reached the 1,561 films in competition with works representing the five continents, which is a new record for the show.
A total of 53 countries aspire to be part of the competition section of this contest to be able to win the Luna de Islantilla Awards, which will go to the most outstanding productions of all those that are projected during the summer months in the programming of free sessions at outdoors of this sample that will take place in the Active Center of Islantilla. The Festival team now has the task ahead of selecting the twelve feature films and one hundred shorts that will compete for the Luna de Islantilla Award in the different categories of the competition.
For the Vice President of the Commonwealth of Islantilla and Deputy Mayor of Lepe, Mariana Otero, “we are facing an edition that shows the excellent health of this Festival, which continues to grow and extend its sphere of influence throughout the world, bearing the name from our destiny to the five continents”.
For his part, the First Deputy Mayor delegated by the Isla Cristina City Council in the Commonwealth, Francisco Zamudio, highlighted “the role of Islantilla as a meeting point for the film industry, which recognizes our destination as a place with open doors where for more than two decades, cinema has been the protagonist”.
With regard to the profile of the 1,534 works presented, Islantilla maintains its cultural diversity thanks to the enormous variety in terms of the origin of the registered films, since productions from countries such as Germany, Argentina, Australia will participate in the next edition of this Festival. , Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Cuba, Denmark, Egypt, Spain, United States, France, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Morocco, Mexico, Poland, Peru, United Kingdom, Russia, South Africa, Turkey or Ukraine , among many others.
Every year, during the months of July and August, the tourist enclave of Islantilla (shared by the Huelva municipalities of Lepe and Isla Cristina) has become a center of attention for movie lovers who, with their presence in the multiple sessions of the extensive programming of this Festival, participate with their vote in the granting of the different prizes that make up the list of winners of this exhibition.
The Official Competition Section of this sixteenth edition will select the best works produced after January 2022, entering the competition twelve feature films and one hundred short films from all continents and on the most diverse themes and genres. The Festival also maintains the economic endowment of its two main awards, so that the Best Feature Film will be awarded with 6,000 euros and the Best Short Film with 2,000 euros.
