A stone from the blast carried out this Wednesday at the Riotinto minelocated in Minas de Riotinto, has impacted against the façade of a house in the El Alto de la Mesa neighborhood, without causing any personal damage, although it did cause visible damage both on the roof and on the upper part of the façade.

The events occurred this afternoon and the mayoress of the municipality, Rocío Díaz, went to the area accompanied by the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Real, and technicians from Watchtower Mining, company that owns the mine, as well as Insersa, in charge of blasting, with the aim of analyzing what happened and offering the necessary help.

After the unfortunate incident in the neighborhood of El Alto de la Mesa, where a stone from the blast hit the façade of a house, the mayoress of Minas de Riotinto, Rocío Díaz, has moved to the area quickly and accompanied by the Councilor for Citizen Security, José Real, and technicians from Atalaya Mining and Insersa, with the aim of assessing what happened and offering the necessary help.

Extraordinary meeting with the management of the mine

Likewise, urgently, it has held an extraordinary meeting with the management of the mining company to address the incident.

The company “has informed us that it has already implemented the relevant measures and has established an investigation committee together with the contractor company in charge of the blasting.”

“The committee will analyze what happened to clarify responsibilities and establish all the necessary measures in order to ensure that an incident of this type does not happen again. In a first technical assessment, the data that we have points to a failure in the loading and plugging of one of the holes.

The council has urged the mining company to reinforce exhaustive and severe control of blasting, avoiding any risk to our neighbors.

Luckily, “we know that we are dealing with an isolated event and that it has not caused major damage to any person.”
