A special train of the Western Military District “Volga”, performing combat missions in the zone of a special military operation in Ukraine, was created by the military personnel of the Russian railway troops, and is intended for reconnaissance, demining and restoration of railway tracks damaged during shelling or clashes. The press service of the RF Ministry of Defense spoke about the modern armored train.
The carriages and platforms of the train are equipped with the best weapons, and are ready not only for support tasks, but also for direct clashes. The walls of the wagons are 20 millimeters of steel, additionally reinforced with sandbags from the inside. There are machine gunners and machine gunners in the armored capsules, and the diesel locomotive is located in the middle of the train, ready to move the train in any direction.
The Volga is also equipped with electronic warfare equipment that suppresses remote explosives and drones. The train’s main guns are twin 23mm anti-aircraft guns capable of firing at both air and ground targets. Also, the special train is reinforced with special heavy platforms that go ahead of the train and take on the impact of explosives, if one is planted by the enemy on the rails.
The movement of the train is always cautious – in front of the bridges and overpasses, groups of sappers under cover move forward, who examine the supports and the railway track. At the same time, in the event of a railway undermining, the train crew is able to repair up to 100 meters of the track on their own.
