An ice cream kiosk appeared at the Gate of Death, leading to the territory of the memorial complex located in the former concentration camp Oswiecim (Auschwitz) in Poland.
While the Polish authorities declaredthat they did not issue any permits to open a retail outlet; it is also reported about the beginning of the inspection and the possible closure of the squatter. At the same time, they insist that the kiosk is on private territory, outside the museum, although on the only road leading to the entrance to the former concentration camp.
The complaint was filed by the museum administration, outraged that the kiosk, among other things, was decorated with bright signs and equipped with tables for customers.
The mayor of the gmina (community) Auschwitz Miroslav Smolarek believes that those who come to the memorial complex should see a concentration camp, not an ice cream stand. “Any sane person understands that this is not the best place for this kind of business,” he said.
Auschwitz was the largest Nazi death factory. The number of deaths in this concentration camp has not yet been established. Surviving documents say that more than 1.5 million people were killed in it.
