The commander of a motorized rifle platoon, senior lieutenant Gennady Ignatenko, did not allow a breakthrough by Ukrainian nationalists in the course of carrying out a combat mission. His platoon held its lines along the strategically important federal highways and transport hubs. Over the course of four months, the enemy tried to force the Russian troops out of their positions, repeatedly making attempts to destroy the objects of the grouping of troops and break through the defenses. During the battles, subordinate personnel and personally Gennady, acting as part of a platoon, inflicted fire damage on the starting lines and assault groups of nationalists preparing for an attack. As a result of the fire defeat, all enemy offensives were thwarted.”
ADJUSTED ARTILLERY FIRE

“The head of the communications equipment platoon, senior sergeant Ivan Zhdanov, as part of the battalion tactical group, performed the tasks of organizing uninterrupted communications in the interests of the command post of the Russian unit. He carried out repair and restoration work in a short time
on equipment and technical means to eliminate malfunctions received during hostilities. The enemy, trying to deprive Russian
units of sustainable management, attacked the positions of the command post, while using artillery and mortars. During the shelling, one of the shells damaged the cable, which was responsible for providing automatic regime telephone communication with the higher headquarters. Risking his life, Zhdanov left the shelter and replaced the failed cable. Thus, in the shortest possible time, he restored automatic regime telephone communication with higher management. Thanks to the promptly restored communications, the command of the control point was able to call for reinforcements, after which an artillery strike was launched on the enemy positions. At the same time, it was possible to destroy the artillery and mortar crews of the enemy.
