Since the onset of the coronavirus attack, the disease has claimed the lives of at least 20 million people worldwide calculated by the WHO. Millions have suffered and continue to suffer from the post-COVID syndrome and exacerbation of chronic diseases provoked by covid.
However, in fact, recently SARS-CoV-2 has ceased to have a significant impact on people’s daily lives, noted in a recent interview KP.RU professor-virologist, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Lukashev. Therefore, according to the expert, it is quite reasonable to talk about the end of the pandemic. “The incidence is at a controllable level. And, since almost everyone managed to get vaccinated and (or) meet with the coronavirus more than once, we do not expect any dramatic events. Unless a super-unusual mutant appears, ”the virologist explained. At the same time, Professor Lukashev warned that covid would come back to haunt us almost endlessly.
“Before the advent of SARS-CoV-2 among respiratory viruses, we had only one serious headache – the flu. We have more or less learned to deal with it. At the same time, influenza, being one of the most severe respiratory pathogens, is also one of the least contagious. Covid, on the other hand, is comparable in severity to influenza and is much more contagious, especially Omicron and its descendants, the scientist emphasized.
