
He Juan Ramón Jiménez University Hospital joins this Friday to the celebration of the World Hand Hygiene Day promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO)with the campaign “Save lives, clean your hands”which promotes hand hygiene as an effective and inexpensive measure to prevent healthcare-associated infections and the spread of multi-resistant microorganisms.
For this reason, an information table has been installed in the center, where the professionals of Preventive Medicine and Quality of Care have reminded that washing hands is essential in the day-to-day life of the general population and, particularly, in health personnel, who must take into account five moments for this hygiene: before contact with the patient, before a clean or aseptic procedure, after having been at risk of exposure to body fluids, after contact with the patient and after touching the environment of the same.
In addition, this year the hospital has convened the I Contest of Stories in prose or verse with “the hands” as protagonists. The winner of this edition has been Rosalia Gonzalez Corralejowho has received a copy of the novel “El olvido que seremos” by Héctor Abad Faciolince, highly recommended reading for any health professional, especially for those with some interest in Public Health.
With the motto “We accelerate action among all”, the WHO makes a call this year to work together each one within their competence and responsibilities: health professionals, patients, managers and those responsible for health policies to situate hand hygiene as a priority preventive measure in health centers.
