After the meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the member countries of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization), which was held in India, Sergei Lavrov talked to reporters. The questions concerned current news: the future of the BRICS, the Ukrainian provocation in the Kremlin and the hegemony of the West. “KP” has prepared key quotes from the answers of the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
About the single currency for the BRICS countries
The name is the last thing. The main thing now is to consider practical issues that will make it possible to protect the cooperation of independent, independent states from the actions of the West to abuse its position as a whole in the world economy, including from the actions of the United States to abuse the dollar as a reserve currency, and the euro also sins with such approaches.
About mutual settlements in national currencies
There is an understanding of the increase and use of national currencies for settlements between the SCO countries. To do this, we can apply the practices that are now being formed within the Eurasian Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank for Reconstruction, and the new BRICS Development Bank.
About the drone attack on the Kremlin
There is nothing more to expect any new incidents, new provocations. Zelensky and his team are doing everything both in the media space and in their practical steps so that any self-respecting country does not want to communicate with them. And we understand that awareness of this is maturing. <...> It was a hostile act, it is obvious that the Kyiv terrorists could not have committed it without the knowledge of the owners. We will respond not by talking about whether the Belli incident (cause for war – ed.) is or not, but we will respond with concrete actions.
On the hegemony of the West
We have never given up on resolving the problems that arose as a result of the actions of the United States and its satellites in pumping Ukraine with weapons. We see a growing understanding that these problems cannot be reconciled only by running up against the line of contact in the Donbass, as some want to freeze this line and then start thinking about what to do in the future. Everyone understands the geopolitical nature of what is happening, and everyone understands that without resolving the main geopolitical problem, which is the desire of the West to maintain its hegemony and dictate to everyone and all its will, it is impossible to solve any crises either in Ukraine or in other parts of the world.
