
The VIII Half Marathon ‘City of Punta Umbría’ will be held this Sunday, May 7, with 275 registered runners. The appointment will begin at 10:00 a.m. and the maximum duration time will be 2 hours and 30 minutes, closing the finish line at 12:30 p.m.
The route will go around a 7,000-meter circuit three times, to complete the final 21 kilometers and 100 meters. The race will start and finish at the Antonio Gil Hernández Municipal Sports Center.
It will pass through Andévalo, Campiña streets, Almería, Libertad, Huelva, Andalusia, Ocean and Atlantic avenues, Lepanto and Ancha streets, José Caballero avenue, Natación street, Marina avenue and Manuel Retamales Benítez street to the Antonio Gil Hernández municipal sports center.
There will be restrictions on traffic in the street circuit mentioned between 10:00 and 12:30. However, there will be agents of the Local Police intermittently giving way to vehicles at the busiest points. And they will have the help of volunteers at the cuts to explain the possible alternative routes.
The Councilor for Sports, Alejandro Rodríguez, has asked for a little “patience and understanding from vehicle users on Sunday morning, since we are going to try to minimize as much as possible the impact on mobility in our town during the development of the race, to continue setting an example of our organizational capacity”. In addition, he applauded “the collaboration of Club Atlético Punta Umbría, as well as Puntiti Sport, in defining the circuit and in all technical aspects prior to the race.”
The VIII ‘Ciudad de Punta Umbría’ Half Marathon will have categories from senior to master G, the same for men as for women, with prizes for the first three of each of them and a commemorative medal of the test for all those who cross the finish line . There will also be a specific classification for local athletes.
In addition, the race is included in the 2023 Gran Fondo Provincial Circuit of the Diputación de Huelva.
In parallel, the ’60th anniversary’ popular race will be held on the same day, starting at 9.30 am at the aforementioned Antonio Gil Hernández Municipal Sports Center. In addition, there will be children’s races in the same facilities from 10.15 am. These last two competitions will be free.
The event is organized by the Punta Umbría City Council, with the collaboration of Club Atlético Punta Umbría, Provincial Council of HuelvaJunta de Andalucía, Puntiti Sport, Chiguagua, Ida y Vuelta and Hostal Manuela.
