47% of residents of southern Russia are sure that over the past decade, the profession of a firefighter has become more difficult. Another 11% believe that there have been no changes, and only 42% believe that it is easier to work in the fire department today. This is evidenced by the data of a joint survey of hh.ru, the largest online recruiting platform in Russia, and Rockwool Russia. The study is timed to coincide with the Russian Fire Protection Day (April 30).
Why is the work of firefighters more dangerous?
Those who believe that the work of firefighters has become more difficult, as a rule, attribute this to modern materials and technologies: 66% noted that many modern combustible materials are currently used in everyday life and construction, which make it more difficult to extinguish a fire, 55% are sure that fires cause more damage to the health of firefighters due to smoke from plastic and other synthetic materials. In addition, 51% of respondents believe that there are more electrical appliances and other causes of fire around.
“In addition, the overall increase in the number of fires (as considered by 40%), the reduction in the number of firefighters themselves (32%), as well as frequent fires in illegal private institutions, for example, in nursing homes and hotels (21% ). At the same time, only 4% of residents of the Southern Federal District believe that the work of firefighters has become more difficult due to the spread of remote employment. Another 4% of respondents chose the “other” option and described the problem themselves. In particular, some said that the work of firefighters has become more difficult due to high-rise buildings, due to low salaries, due to insufficient funding and obsolescence of the material base, as well as due to an incompetent approach to the construction and operation of buildings and engineering systems. ? adds Maria Ignatova, Head of Research at hh.ru.

It is necessary to pay attention not only to preventive measures, but also to what materials we use in everyday life, in construction. This really plays a big role, it is no coincidence that representatives of the construction industry most often said that the profession of firefighters has become more difficult and dangerous. Preference should always be given to natural fire-resistant materials. For example, mineral wool is resistant to fire and can withstand temperatures over 1000°C”, ?
