Ribbon cutting on the threshold of the house where the founder of the legendary Moscow theater was born and raised, it was in the morning. All this, including the planting of lilacs, took place under heavy rain. But when the guests entered the beautiful, restored mansion, they almost immediately agreed: nature does not have bad weather. True, hoping in the soul that by the evening the abysses of heaven will already spill on the earth. And the open-air concert on the central square of Vladikavkaz will take place without umbrellas.

It wasn’t there. The rain didn’t let up. But this did not stop the 5,000 spectators or the artists. The concert lasted 4 hours. Almost the entire troupe of the Vakhtangov Theater and other invited stars took part in it. From what I remember: how Sergei Makovetsky read Chekhov, how Marina Esipenko sang Pushkin’s “Bacchic Song” – “If life deceives you, Do not be sad, do not be angry!”… Victor Dobronravov and Evgenia Kregzhde danced the tango. The strongest impression on the audience was made by the twine of Maria Aronova. Volochkova will envy her twine. The people’s favorite performed with a benefit number – a fragment from the play “Mademoiselle Nitush”. “Come on, come on Vladikavkaz, it’s not difficult for us,” Aronova cheered up the audience. And once again she sat down on the twine – already for an encore.

The artists told in their faces, in songs, in dances the history of their theater, from its creation to the present day, as a report on the work done before the Teacher – Evgeny Vakhtangov. In one number, Sergey Makovetsky, Yulia Rutberg, Maria Aronova, Evgeny Knyazev, Lidia Velezheva, Olga Tumaikina, Nonna Grishaeva took the stage and sang Alla Pugacheva’s “Maestro” in chorus, meaning not Raymond Pauls, but Evgeny Vakhtangov …

Judging by the fact that the audience got wet, but continued to watch the concert, everyone really enjoyed it. Guest stars performed behind the Vakhtangovists: Mariam Mirabova, Larisa Dolina, Taisiya Povaliy … And the concert ended with the golden voice of Russia – Nikolai Baskov: “High hands, Vladikavkaz! Let’s sing a song-epoch. It was not difficult to guess that the “Bar-organ” would now sound. And so it happened. Baskov cheerfully walked on the stage through the puddles. The audience sang along to him. The holiday was a success. Vladikavkaz was satisfied.
