
The candidate of VOX to the Mayor of Huelva, Wenceslao Font, and the number 4 of his candidacy, Raul Molinahave met with the president of the Real Club Recreativo Tenis de Huelva, Rafael Romero, and members of its board of directors, to find out first-hand what the current situation of this sports institution is.
“In Huelva we are immensely fortunate to have the Dean of tennis at the national level, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, which we must take care of and promote, because it is one of the great hallmarks of Huelva,” Font explains.
The mayor of VOX recalls that “a few years ago, the club was in a very delicate situation, but the commitment and good work of the members allowed us to overcome that complex situation.”
The club hosts the Copa del Rey de Tenis; one of the oldest events in this sport discipline in Spain. “It is a very important event not only for the club, but for the entire city, because fans from other provinces come to enjoy that special atmosphere and the great tennis that permeates our club and all of Huelva on tournament days,” he says. Font acknowledges “the immense effort that the club has made for more than a century to carry out, counting on this year, 98 editions of the Copa del Rey, always bringing great national and international racket figures to Huelva.” Likewise, he considers that “for the centenary, Huelva must throw itself into celebrating such an important edition as the club and the people of Huelva deserve.”
Vox with the new location of the club
Regarding the project for a new club located in the Ensanche of the city, Romero affirms that “there is an offer on the table that we are conscientiously evaluating from the club to make the best decision”, and adds that “the City Council is a part fundamental that it has to promote the necessary conditions so that the new club, which, of course, will continue to be open to the city, is a reality.
Finally, Font highlights “VOX’s firm commitment to promote and sponsor a tennis club that contributes significantly to the development of our city, to the promotion of sporting practice and values, and to the cohesion of Huelva society.”
