About appointment new commander officially announced by the Ministry of Defense. But why did the President-Supreme Commander-in-Chief and the Minister of Defense now decide to “move up” this particular senior officer? There are at least two reasons for this:
Firstly, General Alexei Kuzmenkov – seasoned rear with great service experience.
Secondly, in the course of a special military operation, serious problems were revealed in the material and technical support of the troops, which a highly professional manager in this area should solve. And it is difficult to refuse professionalism to Kuzmenkov. His track record is impressive, and the steep career ladder was associated exclusively with the rear.
Biography of Colonel General Alexei Kuzmenkov: from warehouse manager to deputy defense minister
Alexey Kuzmenkov graduated Volsk Higher Military School of Logistics. He began his service as an officer in 1992, as a warehouse manager. Then there were the positions of deputy commander of a motor vehicle battalion for logistics, head of the food service of the brigade and deputy head of logistics – head of the organizational and planning department of the brigade in the Moscow Military District (MVO).
Since 1998 for nine years served as deputy commander for logistics – head of the rear of a separate commandant’s regiment. Then he headed the food service of the logistics department of the Moscow Military District. He was also the deputy commander for rear – the head of the rear of the Guards Tank Division.
In 2000 Alexei Mikhailovich received a diploma of a graduate of the Military Academy of Logistics and transport. And after 9 years he completed a course of study at the Military Academy of the General Staff.
In 2009 he was appointed Chief of Logistics – Deputy Army Commander for Logistics in the Moscow Military District.
In August 2012 he took head of planning department and coordination of the logistics of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation (since 2014 – the headquarters of the logistics of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation).
Kuzmenkov was one of developers of Operation Syrian Expressthe purpose of which was the operational transfer of a huge amount of material and technical means for our group.
In September 2018, Kuzmenkov was appointed to the post of Deputy Commander of the Southern Military District for Logistics. And in 2019, he became Deputy Director of the Federal Service of the National Guard Troops (he oversaw the work of the units of the financial, economic and rear block). And now he has taken the post of deputy minister of defense for the logistics of the troops (or, in a simple way, he became the head of the Logistics of the armed forces).
I called General Kuzmenkov to congratulate him on his appointment to a high position and ask a few questions:
How will you get started in your new position? I asked him first.
The colonel-general answered sparingly:
– From the job! First you need to figure everything out. Sorry, a lot to do. Then we’ll talk anyway.
I wished him good luck and thought that Kuzmenkov got a very difficult war time at his main rear post. But after all, in 2015, when he was considering the Syrian Express operation, it was also not easy. And now this operation has been included in the curriculum of many military schools and academies of the world …
