The University of Huelva (UHU) hosts this Saturday and Sunday, April 29 and 30, the traditional Cartel de Minas, an event that was born in the early 1960s in France and which originally brought together students from the Mining Schools throughout Europe, although the activity lost that dimension over time.

After the coronavirus pandemic, the schools that offer Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees in Mining Engineering decided to gradually revive the tradition, starting with the Iberian Peninsula, after what this year, at the proposal of the Higher Technical School of Mines and Energy from Madrid, the Cartel is held in Huelva.

The event, organized by the students, brings together almost 215 students from Minas de Minas from different schools throughout the Iberian Peninsula, of which between 50 and 70 belong to the University of Huelva, starting this Saturday in Huelva, who are enjoying a weekend of coexistence around sports, since sports activities are the central axis of the Cartel.

After the welcome ceremony, which was carried out by the Vice Chancellor for Social and University Projection, Joaquina Castillo, all the students sang the hymn of Santa Bárbara Bendita, Patron Saint of miners, after which the different sports activities began. scheduled, which take place both in the Onubense facilities and in the Saladillo 7 soccer fields,

The program consists of a total of 11 activities in which up to seven sports join hands: 11 football, 7 football, futsal, basketball, handball, volleyball and rugby.
